Oceania (Year 2)

Oceania

Welcome to Oceania class 2024!

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday

We are a happy and caring class where we take pride in our work to be the best we can be!

Oceania’s class teacher is Miss Mole and our wonderful teaching assistants are Miss Charles, Miss Middleton and Miss Knight

Our Classroom Environment:

Our classroom is a calm and welcoming learning environment where practical resources and working walls support and stimulate children’s learning.

Through continuous provision both inside and outside, the children have opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning and explore the objectives through multiple learning styles, as well as allowing children to develop their passions and talents.

Daily Routine:

Each morning begins with a morning challenge to warm up our brains ready for the day! We then join the whole school for collective worship.

Following this, we have a 20-minute Little Wandle phonics session, followed by Maths and guided reading.

After playtime, we have our English lesson, focusing on practising our spoken language as well as our writing.

In the afternoons, the children have two dedicated teaching slots on the foundation subjects. Around this, the children have ‘Explore and Learn’ where they extend their learning through the continuous provision activities linking to the weekly objectives.

Finally, each day is ended with a class read. We value sharing this precious time at the end of each day, enjoying and discussing a book together. We look forward to reading a variety of different genres throughout the year.

Topics:

Each half term, our lessons are focused around a topic. This supports children to deepen their learning and to gain knowledge through a variety of learning styles and creative activities.

In Year 2 our topics are;

  • Ocean Adventures
  • The Great Fire of London
  • Location, Location
  • Unsinkable
  • Around the World with the Three Bears
  • No Place Like Home
