Welcome to Saturn Class

Mrs Barker is the Teacher in the Year 2 (Saturn) Classroom supported by Mrs Mustoe and Mrs Pointing. Miss Rochford will be teaching us on a Monday.

Our Key Stage 1 classes in Year 1 and 2 are organised to promote and develop children's learning through continuous provision.  This continuous provision enables children to return to their explorations and consolidate their learning over the course of a day or a more extended periods.  It allows children to make choices and initiate play without interaction with an adult.  We view our highly planned and resourced environments as the 'third teacher' for our children.

Reading and writing is promoted in all areas of learning, meaning that both are purposeful.  When using the art area, children plan what they are going to make and after it is completed they evaluate the end product.  Children will often practise maths concepts they have been taught using the loose parts.  They also use the outdoor area to make up games that encourage counting, measuring, taking turns and teamwork.

Year 1 and 2 are also introduced to weekly challenges, when appropriate,  where they can independently apply and consolidate skills which have been previously taught.  This allows children to demonstrate their understanding and proficiency within a particular skill, which in turn allows staff to plan next steps in the children's learning journey.  Within each class, children have access to both the indoor and outdoor provision, where staffing and circumstances allow.
In Year 2 our afternoon session will be where our continuous provision will happen. The challenges being linked each week to a different foundation subject.

When will I be famous?

We have PE on a Monday and a Friday.  Please remember to wear PE kit to school on these days.

The children always enjoy learning through practical experience and drama activities. This especially helps them to develop and enliven their creative writing.
